The Kabaa, Masjid Al-Haram and Mecca

Question:

Some say that the Kabaa is not the Masjid Al-Haram and that the Masjid Al-Haram is not in Mecca. Can you please give the truth of this matter in the light of the Quran?

Reply:

The following Quranic verses speak about the Kaaba, the Masjid Al-Haram and that the Kabaa. From these words we can derive the connection between all three.

FIRST
:

He is the One who withheld their hands against you and your hands against them
inside Mecca after He made you victorious over them. God is Seer of what you do. 48:24

They are the ones who disbelieved and repelled you from
the Masjid Al-Haram and with the offerings being prevented from reaching its destination. Had it not been for some believing men and believing women whom you did not know, you may have trampled them underfoot, thereby incurring guilt unknowingly. God thus admits into His mercy whom He wills. If they had become separated, We would have punsihed the disbelievers among them with a painful punishment. 48:25

In the two verses above God is speaking to Muhammad and the believers with him about the events during one of the battles (said to be at Hudaybiyyah) were God granted the believers victory. In these verses we have confirmation that the Masjid Al-Haram is inside Mecca

SECOND:

God has rendered
the Kaaba, the Haram House, an establishment for the people, as well as the Haram Month, the offerings and the garlands. 5:97

The words in 5:97 tell us clearly that the Kabaa is the Masjid Al-Haram.
Both 5:95 and 5:97 also tells us that the rituals of hajj are observed at the Kaaba (which is the Masjid Al-Haram).

Conclusion:

The above Quranic words confirm the following:
1- Muhammad and the believers were located in Mecca (48:24).
2- The Masjid Al-Haram is in Mecca (48:24-25).
3- The Kaaba is the masjid Al-Haram (5:97).
4- Hajj is observed at the Kaaba/Masjid Al-Haram (5:95-97).
